A Short Story

Yup, a short story, that may or may not be true. Although I will have a notary public come by later to authenticate my fabrication of the facts. And why would I, who has never been a professional writer, call upon another to justify the words being tossed about like flies around a picnic? Wish I knew and if I did, I would tell everyone. Until then, this story starts like all the other stories in the world (at least the ones that are true…)

Once upon a time, there lived a bread maker. He would spend the entire day, well, at least during winters long – long evenings, wondering how the world ever existed without bread. At the time he was contemplating the aforementioned, he had never heard of celiac disease or other afflictions which, unknown to him and perhaps many others, caused a “snippet” in time. Much akin to a bout of hiccups or giggles that seemed to never end.

There is so much I don’t know about the universe” he said, almost silently, while wishing for an answer. “Perhaps I shouldn’t wonder so much” he thought out loud. Although thinking out loud was the same as talking, the distinction never quite rang a bell. “If I could only live for one thing and one thing only, it would be heavenly bread. Perhaps sourdough or homemade melon bread“, he cried hoping there were others in close earshot of his musings.

Without pausing for an answer, he looked down, noticing a package, a clear cellophane package with a twine twist wrap to seal in the aromatic flavors contained within.  “Excuse me, did someone leave this here?” while slowly turning in a circle, scanning the faces of those nearby.

The “snippet” in time was now a moment to be reckoned with. For inside the clear cellophane wrapper was twelve homemade chocolate chip cookies. Definitely not sourdough bread or even focaccia.  Certainly this was not the one thing he lived for or spent his days contemplating about.

Reaching down he picked up the twelve chocolate chip cookies wrapped in cellophane to examine the intricate twine twist wrap holding the package together.  “Hmm…” he thought. “Not sourdough. Something else entirely. But what? Dare I unwrap this carefully tied twine to explore the contents?” he mused.

Of course there was no turning back now, so without any fanfare he unwrapped the cookies. Coming from the center was an aroma that couldn’t be denied! Amazing, with hints of floral yet sweet with temptations of love carefully bundled. At first, he could not believe it smelled almost better than his precious sourdough heavenly bread. Almost he thought. Before passing judgment, maybe taking a small nibble or bite would help determine the nature of this “snippet” in time.

Almost immediately, he was smitten with pleasure beyond words. The chocolate chip cookies, which were homemade, rivaled the best the universe had to offer.

His world had been turned upside down. For previously, the reason to exist was for sourdough bread. Now, there was another reason to exist. Who knew? Perhaps the cookie maker knew? Or the “snippet”?

To prevent himself from going utterly insane, now that he knew that sourdough bread  had not cornered the market or tamed the universe, he came up with a reason why. A reason why the two could exist together without destroying the fabric of time or galaxies.

Just because.

More Songs and Videos added!

Yup, more songs and videos added. Just like the title says. Scattered throughout the site for your listening and viewing pleasure. Or not. You decide.

Found a live performance of just me playing an acoustic at Kern River singing “I Lika my Fishies” – heck, that’s gotta stun the crowd of disbelievers thinking I had never gone camping before! In fact, I found a whole dang camping video which I plan on posting (down the trail).

I am hard at work, when time permits of course, cataloging old tunes and videos to find items that have made it through the ides of time. Sadly, not all them have.

Enjoy the day!

Complexity Magnified

Did you know there is a “Complexity Science”? I sure in the heck didn’t. Where was I when degrees were being handed out like lollipops at a dental office?  I was most likely coming down from some high of another science called “Magnifying Science”. Where in the heck did that come from? They are breeding like kefir grains. Which I happen to love, but, sadly, I managed to decimate the batch I had. Which isn’t easy to do, it turns out.

What does that make me? A Kefir Killer? Is there going to be a new movie starring a woke actor/actress describing the dangers of Kefir Killing and how the world is gaining .00001 colonies of various bacteria and yeast cultures due to my ignorance in the care and feeding of the little critters? In my defense, they lasted almost a year, until my focus completely shifted to other issues of life. No, you were going to say sauerkraut but I was way into sauerkraut before this Kefir walked into a bar and sat next to me.

So, Complexity Science. Just what is it? Apparently it applies to just about everything.

  • epidemiology and infectious disease processes
  • healthcare organization
  • general practice and “the clinical encounter”
  • biomedicine
  • health social science
  • health geography.

There. That cleared it up. Pretty much. Or not. The above was taken from an ncbi.nlm.nih.gov article. I payed for that. So did you. Feel better now?  I sure do.

And I’m still not closer to understanding even with the “magnifying science” added to make it bigger. This reminds me of studies about older men who eat steak and then watch tv. The average study is about $50,000. Why? Does knowing this enrich my already vast knowledge of the universe? Not really. Except for the researchers. They were enriched. Sometimes I get a prize in a box of cereal which is WAY COOL!

How about can women have orgasms while riding a bike? $250K for this one. Well, if they can, I’m sure for it!  And yup, I pay for that too. But do I want to know? Nope. Nope. Nope. Oh well, if anything I am reminded it’s about time to start water kefir batches again. Tasty and healthful.

If you’re a woman, you can ride a bike (healthy) , drink kefir (healthy) and have an orgasm ($&^%#awesome) at the same time. THE SAME TIME! (contemplate that for a minute. And then stop.) Complexity magnified! How cool is that? Without even thinking about “Complexity Science”.

Until next time, the meditation shop is closed. (smile)

Added another page!

Yup. Added another page to the site.Blast From The Past which has songs from various bands and musicians I’ve played with. I will try and update as often I can, however I have so many projects in the works that I get overwhelmed. But what a problem to have, right? (smile)

I enjoy writing music, which has been on a back burner this year as projects took me in other directions. But when I started to repair my gear and found oodles of tunes I had forgotten about, it was my eureka moment. PAY ATTENTION to what you want to accomplish in life. Or eat really good food. Both high on my list. (smile)

Also updated the post old videos – found with another Gray Efford Band tune

Enjoy!

Finished lyric video!

As you know, I found a version of Stephen Wolfe Smith singing another song of mine from years back. Early 1990’s. The song “and if” has been recorded by a few different vocalists over the years with Laurie Bentons version (amazing singer!) located on this site as well.

This was a great surprise as I had completely forgotten we had recorded this until I was listening to some dat work tapes I found after finally repairing my dat machine. Since I felt the collection would be incomplete without his version located in the “no promises” page, I spent a few nights making a quick lyric video.

COMING SOON!

Many years ago, when I was recording almost everyday, one of my favorite tunes was a ballad I had written when I was in between girlfriends. Yes, I was a lonely guy. However, my life was filled with interesting and talented singers/musicians. One of them was Stephen Wolfe Smith, who passed way too early. He was a great singer and overall nice guy!

I have a page here on the site dedicated to the tunes he performed. No Promises

During the early lockdown, I spent some time putting together music videos of the tunes he performed for me.  Earlier today, I had repaired my DAT machine and started listening to some of my archived tunes and SURPRISE SURPRISE! I had completely forgotten that Stephen had recorded vocals on this tune.

Currently, there are three lyric music videos with him singing. Yup, you guessed it. Soon there will be four. It will take some time as I am quite busy being well, uh, busy. As I get closer to finishing, I’ll post the song title etc.

Until then it will be a mystery.

No Connection…EEK!

So, about a week or two ago, I was hiking with my faithful companion, the Chupacabra, when I realized that a telephone pole on my hiking path was NOT CONNECTED TO…anything! Scary, spooky and you guessed it, very Night Gallery-ish.

I remember this episode where the phone keeps ringing and when answered, a voice from beyond the grave would speak. The phone lines had been damaged in a storm and one of the telephone wires had landed on a  grave.

A great commercial for phone service! I looked to see if there were anymore poles in the vicinity. Nope. Just this one all by itself. Why was there a telephone pole connected to nothing in the middle of my hike?

The answer was not forthcoming. Was it even worth the time to contemplate? Nah. My Chupacabra thought is was strange too! Since there were no headstones I could see or unearth, I moved on. Still, brought up a memory from long ago…

A DANGEROUS JOURNEY! A.K.A. (the first hike of the year)

Here I be, or was, waiting to begin the first journey of our new trek around the sun, wondering if I would complete this walk among the stars. At least I would begin with high hopes and my faithful companion, the CHUPACABRA (eek!)

Last year I ended with a hike on the more traveled path. This year, I choose to start with the least trodden trail, hoping there would be little in my Dangerous Journey to confuse and confound me. As it turns out, the choice was choice! Along the way I encountered only a handful of brave individuals such as myself.

The water was flowing fast, the mud deep, chances of slipping and cracking open a skull were high! Just getting soaked crossing the streams that blocked my path, would make any man fearful and entertain thoughts of reversing course. And I am not just any man. I AM CEEJ!

Below you’ll find some of my journeys pictorial documentation, while some photos are not for the faint of heart, I find it best to remember that I did this hike so you wouldn’t have too.

The hike begins

Walking along the whispering leaves, leaving no sound I was there

The Chupacabra fearless, turns a gaze towards me as I stop in fright, once again reminding me I could transcend the irrational fight or flight human response…

An obstacle, placed directly in the path. Should I continue? Or will this growing feeling of being drowned overcome me…I wondered.

Could I eat this, sustaining my life if I ran out of granola bars? Would I surely perish from the painful death if poisonous? I did not know…

Another omen…could they be death caps? Or just an imposter, teasing me with the promise of nourishment? I wondered…

At last! A shroom I recognized. False Turkey Tails. Not the most edible but in a pinch I would survive. Although these had seen better days. Most likely, last years crop.

Strolling along the path, confident now, I could sense the small waterfall up ahead. The air was filled with a mist of tiny drops of love.

Eureka! I had made the journey to the waterfall, alive! I could see the mark of the eye on the rocky surface to the right, warning all that nothing is as it seems. My journey back would be simple. I was happy. We lived to tell the tale.

The End.

The Beginning – Again

Once again planet earth has sailed/traveled around the star we call “The Sun“, in about 365 days. Does this figure have any significance or divine meaning? I personally don’t know the answer. Some will claim they have insider knowledge. I call bullshit on them. We are thankfully glued to this planet with the mysterious force of gravity. Without such, we would float out into space, devoid of oxygen and life sustaining nutrients, we’d quickly perish as a species. Oh, and the above thought is considered, well, “Science” (prove me wrong)

What does that mean? What does starting another arbitrary revolution around the sun accomplish? Will we be better as humans? Will people rise up to the current fraud that is being perpetrated worldwide this year? I sure hope so. While I have faith that some will take off the blinders preventing the truths from seeing the light day, I still worry.

IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR, we watched science being thrown out a window, in exchange for personal beliefs. We have witnessed atrocities being fostered on the people of the world in the name of “science”. What happens when they are wrong? Can we have intelligent discussions about why? Apparently not. Because. Science. Yup. The meaning has now changed to “Science: That which is what is popular among the ruling class, for any reason”

If you dare to counter with facts, figures, research or even use decades of precedence, you are attacked and shunned, shut out from the public by uneducated bureaucrats, pencil pushers and elite college snobs. All of them belonging to a cult of “wannabes” and genocide believers.

Hopefully, this year begins a cleansing. Removal from the mainstream foibles and outright untruths they proclaim. As the wake up continues, those that were previously caught in the web, will slowly climb to freedom. Redeeming humanity. I can hope.

I see gabpay becoming a reality, among other services. A parallel economy developing. And it can be none too soon. When governments become totalitarian bastards of oppression, this planet and those oppressing the people that exist on the surface,  no longer becomes worthy of traveling around our sun.

I was not invited to be born or given a choice to exist. And yet, here I am. Because I believe in being the best version of myself I can be, I will give my support to those with the same goals and visions.

What will you do this year?

The Last Hike of 2021

Well, I haven’t been hiking in quite awhile. So, today, I gathered up some warm clothes, my Chupacabra, and set off into the wilderness to explore brave new worlds once again. While my expectations were high, I never thought that 2021 would let me down. Sure enough, it did.

Usually, after torrential rains, mushrooms of all varieties sprout with the fervor of young hatchlings escaping from their shells. But today there was nothing of the sort. In fact, I only located 2 and 1/2 shrooms. The 1/2 shroom was last years False Turkey Tails dried up on older decaying logs. The living shrooms were a jelly shroom and a parasol of some kind, most likely deadly if eaten. The jelly shroom was edible I believe, although I wasn’t about to test that theory.

The Chupacabra was delighted to be out in the forest, testing the lingering smells left behind from other lifeforms of the wilds. And maybe a few local dogs being escorted on leashes on the muddy trail. And muddy it was! Cold. The sun had receded behind a few scattered clouds, enabling the temperature to drop a few degrees, although it felt like icicles were forming in the misty air.

I was happy to be out, among other hikers, except for the few that were in full battle gear obeying the fear mongering of the main stream media. I did meet a younger couple who took the time to admire the Chupacabra and little known to them, I had fed her earlier and she currently wasn’t hungry.

CHUPCABRA!!!

Not for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches

Crop of shrooms – might be Psathyrella longpipes

Parasols of some kind – not for consumption until I identify them

Tomorrow begins another arbitrary cycle around the sun. Perhaps the next cycle around the sun will bring surprises, laughter and mysterious meetings.
